Dystopia–Dystopia College has sent a “cease and desist” letter to the publisher of the blog DyssDystopia, according to the college’s legal counsel, Fgn Gocha Na.
She said the letter alleges that the blog “promulgates dangerous truths” about Dystopia College and should therefore be shut down immediately.
Local attorney Hogan Gitthoff, who represents the blogger, Rich Kidd, a senior English major at the college, said the content of the blog is “well within” Kidd’s right to free speech, and since the blog does not make use of any college resources (Kidd lives off campus and uses a private internet provider), the letter is “just a bluff.”
Kidd said the college “is just pissed off” because his blog points out some of its many failings, and, therefore, Dystopia administrators are “trying to shut me down just to get even.” He added that college officials are also “out to get” him because he “might be involved with someone” they consider “inappropriate,” but declined to elaborate.
Gitthoff said the college “wouldn’t have a leg to stand on” if it tried to take Kidd to court.
In the meantime, Kidd said, he will continue blogging, and “those pansy-assed bastards can’t stop me.”
