DYSTOPIA–“An unexpected gender imbalance” in this fall’s acting classes has led Theatre Dystopia into plans for a unique production of Alan Bennett’s play The History Boys, according to Asst. Prof. of Theatre Staige Fryte, who will direct the production.
Fryte said the “boys'” roles will be played by female students, with the headmaster and teachers Hector and Irwin portrayed by faculty or members of the local theatre community. The two female roles, Mrs. Lintott and the headmaster’s secretary, will be played by male actors in drag.
The director said casting is not yet complete, but Samantha Sabrina Eastwick has been cast as Dakin, and Joey Dimarco, “who looks really good in a miniskirt,” will take the role of the headmaster’s secretary.
